Ultra-hard cutting materials of diamond and carbide
It is a tool tipped with several cutting edges being – for you as the user - much more cheaper than the regular inserts tipped with 1 cutting edge.
Sandwich means that a hard metal core is coated double-sided with a PcBN layer of 0,8 mm thickness. Out of these blanks either inserts in double full face performance are produced or cutting edges for multiple tipping are cut. These cutting edges will than be brazed into the designed hard metal blanks. Consequently every brazed element automatically has 2 cutting edges.

Inserts
It seems that obviously it not gets around in our industrial sector that inserts with multiple tipping per cutting edge are by 30 – 50% cheaper than conventional inserts with single tipping.
Furthermore Becker presents another especialness in the new supplement edition which is not yet existing that way in the industrial sector. Becker offers not only the possibility of supplying an insert with multiple tipping but also different cutting edge performances by default.
It is, for example, possible to buy an insert of type CNGA120404 not only in one cutting edge performance but standardized in 8 different protection chamfer performances and even ex stock. This extends the application possibilities as regarding hard machining surface qualities of Rz 0,5-0,8 can be reached without difficulty. For the real HSC with continuous cut cutting data up to Vc = 2000 m/min become possible as well as cutting data up to Vc = 380 m/min at HRc 65 for HSC hard machining.
In the supplement edition you will find 4 PcBN grades with different work piece characteristics.
PcBN – grades:
PBC-10S, with very high CBN concentration (95%) for GG, Sinter steel and super alloys
PBC-15S, with high CBN concentration (80%) in super fine grain for GG and GGG
PBC-25S, with medium CBN concentration (65%) for hard machining
PBC-40S, with low CBN concentration (65%) in super fine grain for hard machining
All these PcBN inserts will be delivered in coated performance. This coating prevents a tribo oxidation, adhesion or diffusion as it may appear by direct contact of the PcBN cutting materials with the different material grades, especially while using fluid coolants. So the wear resistance will be considerably increased.
Summarizing we can say that the sandwich material significantly increases saving of costs, productivity and the possibility of multiple use. Standardized high performance cutting edges, ex stock, low prices >>>> a cost killer.
